Farewell Ceremony Honors Dolphy D’Souza After 40 Years of Dedicated Service at Maryknoll High School, Barkur

The Maryknoll High School in Barkur witnessed an evening filled with nostalgia, gratitude, and celebration as it bid farewell to one of its most cherished educators and community leaders, Mr. Dolphy D’Souza. After an illustrious 40-year career at the institution, Dolphy retired, leaving behind a legacy of unwavering dedication, leadership, and service. The farewell ceremony, held on February 28, 2025, was a heartfelt tribute to a man whose life and work have touched countless lives.  


The event, attended by students, alumni, faculty, parishioners, family members, and distinguished guests, was a testament to the profound impact Dolphy has had on the school and the community. The evening was a blend of solemn prayers, emotional tributes, and joyous celebrations, reflecting the deep respect and affection everyone holds for him.  

Solemn Prayers and a Warm Welcome

The program commenced with a prayer service led by Rev. Fr. Ronald Miranda, the Parish Priest, who invoked divine blessings for Dolphy as he embarked on a new chapter in his life. Adding a personal touch to the occasion, Rev. Fr. Vishal Lobo, a neighbor and close friend of Dolphy, graced the event and spoke fondly of his unwavering commitment to service and faith.  

The Headmistress of Maryknoll High School, Sr. Jasmita, along with past and present colleagues, gathered in large numbers to reminisce about Dolphy’s unparalleled contributions to the institution. His dedication to education and his ability to inspire both students and teachers alike were highlighted as defining aspects of his career.  

Felicitation and Heartfelt Tributes

The evening was marked by a series of emotional and insightful speeches from distinguished personalities who have known and worked closely with Dolphy over the years.  

Kishore Gonsalves,  President of Kavita Trust, and classmate of Dolphy, praised Dolphy’s multifaceted personality, describing him as a true leader, mentor, and a bridge between generations. He emphasized how Dolphy’s guidance and wisdom have left an indelible mark on the community.  

Mr. Ashok Poojary, President of the Maryknoll Golden Jubilee Celebrations, credited Dolphy for his instrumental role in uniting alumni and making milestone events a grand success. He highlighted Dolphy’s ability to bring people together and his passion for preserving the school’s legacy.  

Ms. Shabnam Anjum, Block Education Officer (BEO), acknowledged Dolphy’s tireless service in the field of education, calling him a pillar of support for both students and teachers. She lauded his ability to balance professionalism with compassion, making him a beloved figure in the school.  

The Kachhur Ward members presented a citation and honor, recognizing Dolphy’s selfless contributions as a Ward leader (Gurkar), Church Coordinator for 20 commissions, and a key figure in the parish pastoral council. His dedication to the church and community was celebrated as a shining example of service and leadership.  

A Special Toast by Rev. Fr. Reginald Pinto

One of the most touching moments of the evening was a special toast by Rev. Fr. Reginald Pinto, Director of Sampada, Udupi Diocese, who shared a long-standing association with Dolphy as the former Director of CYM Barkur. Fr. Reginald fondly recalled Dolphy’s youth, his active participation in CYM, and his ability to balance work, family, and friendships with grace and dedication.  

In a heartfelt tribute, Fr. Reginald raised a toast not only to Dolphy’s retirement but also to two personal milestones—his Silver Jubilee of Marriage with Judith D’Souza and his 60th Birthday. He praised the strong bond between Dolphy and Judith, built on mutual respect, faith, and love, and acknowledged their sacrifices and dedication to family.  

Fr. Reginald also highlighted Dolphy’s remarkable ability to juggle professional responsibilities, social commitments, and his unwavering care for his elderly parents, all while being a pillar of support for his community. With warmth and humor, he wished Dolphy and Judith many more years of happiness, health, and togetherness, raising a toast to a life well-lived and a legacy well-earned.  

A Family’s Nostalgic Tribute

Dolphy’s family members took the stage to share their memories and pay tribute to a man who has been a devoted husband, father, and son. They recounted his journey of 60 years, highlighting his unwavering dedication to his parents, his love for music, and his role as a loving family man.  

His wife, Judith, who serves as a nurse in the UAE, and his son, currently pursuing I PUC Commerce at the prestigious National PU College in Barkur, were recognized for their love and support throughout Dolphy’s journey. The family’s tribute was a poignant reminder of the personal sacrifices and commitments that have shaped Dolphy’s life.  

Dolphy D’Souza’s Emotional Farewell Speech

In an emotional address, Dolphy expressed his gratitude to the school, the church, his colleagues, friends, and family for their unwavering support over the years. He reflected on his 40-year journey at Maryknoll High School, calling it a privilege to serve his Alma Mater.  

Dolphy extended heartfelt thanks to his mother, wife Judith, son Renon, brothers, sisters, and extended family for their love and encouragement. He also acknowledged his mentors, friends, and parish leaders for their guidance and support throughout his career.  

A Lasting Legacy

As Dolphy D’Souza steps into retirement and settles in his native place, he leaves behind a legacy of service, leadership, and love for his community. His presence will be deeply missed, but his impact will continue to inspire generations to come.  

The farewell ceremony honoring Mr. Dolphy D’Souza was beautifully compered by Mr. Sathish Amin Barkur, whose eloquence and warmth added a special charm to the evening. His seamless coordination and heartfelt narration ensured that every moment of the event was memorable, reflecting the deep respect and admiration the community holds for Dolphy.  

Earlier, as Dolphy concluded his 40 years of service at Maryknoll High School, the institution organized a touching felicitation ceremony on his last working day. Colleagues and students gathered to honor the man who had been a mentor, guide, and friend to so many. The atmosphere was filled with mixed emotions—pride for his accomplishments and sadness at his departure.  

In a poignant send-off, Dolphy was escorted home in a grand procession accompanied by a brass band. The streets echoed with music and cheers as emotional colleagues and dear students walked alongside him, celebrating his legacy and bidding him a heartfelt farewell. The procession was a symbolic gesture of gratitude, marking the end of an era and the beginning of a new chapter in Dolphy’s life.  


This dual celebration—both at the school and during the farewell ceremony—highlighted the profound impact Dolphy has had on the Maryknoll community. His journey, marked by dedication, humility, and service, will forever remain etched in the hearts of those who had the privilege of knowing him.

The evening concluded with a vote of thanks, followed by a fellowship meal where guests exchanged memories, laughter, and heartfelt wishes for Dolphy’s new journey.
