In a vibrant display of culinary creativity and community spirit, the ICYM (Indian Catholic Youth Movement) Barkur Chapter successfully conducted its cooking competition, in preparation for its Annual Day, showcasing the impressive gastronomic talents of parishioners.
The cooking competition, themed Cooking without fire, featured an impressive array of 20 diverse dishes prepared by participants. The event took place at the 'Souharda' hall, running from 3:00 PM to 4:30 PM, and attracted participants from seven different wards of the parish.
Sebsatian ward emerged as the champion, securing the first place with his outstanding culinary presentation. The competition was closely contested, with Nagarmatt St. Thomas Ward claiming the second position, and St. Jude Halekodi Ward securing the third spot.
The event was graced by several key figures, including Parish Priest Rev. Father Ronald Miranda, the ICYM Director, who delivered the introductory remarks. Ceola Pinto, the ICYM President, extended the welcome address, while Rishon Barnes, the secretary, efficiently managed the event's logistics.
The competition's success was attributed to the dedicated efforts of Jossie Fernandes, Vice President of the Parish Pastoral Council, Eric Soans, the Secretary, and Herald D'Souza, Coordinator of Parish Committees. Special recognition was given to culinary expert and Restauranteur Dolphi Mascarenhas, celebrated local caterer Denis Rodriguez, and Sister Justine D'Silva, who played a crucial role as Judges of the competition.
The competition saw widespread participation from parishioners, with a large number of community members in attendance. The event not only showcased culinary skills but also fostered a sense of community and cultural celebration. Participants presented a remarkable range of dishes, demonstrating their creativity, taste, cleanliness, and presentation skills. The variety of cuisines and cooking styles highlighted the rich culinary heritage of the region.
The event concluded with all seven participating groups presenting their meticulously prepared dishes, which were enjoyed by all in attendance, marking a successful and memorable celebration of local culinary talent that brought the community together in a joyous display of gastronomic creativity and shared cultural pride.
