Barkur, March 10, 2024: The spirit of International Women's Day resonated through the air as members of the Association of Women, known as Sthree Sanghatan, came together in Barkur to celebrate the occasion in a grand manner.
The day commenced with a solemn liturgy at St.Peter Church, where members actively participated in leading the liturgy and the choir, embracing the significance of the day. Following the mass, the festivities continued at the church convention hall Souharda, where a sumptuous breakfast awaited the attendees.
The event was graced by esteemed guests, including Parish Priest Rev Fr Ronald Miranda, Parishioner Sheela Jossie Picardo as the guest of honor, Resident Priest Rolvin Fernandes, Vice President of Parish Council Jossie Fernandes, and convener of parish commissions Herald D'Souza, who all played pivotal roles in enriching the celebration.
The program kicked off with a heartwarming prayer and a soulful rendition of the theme song, setting the tone for the rest of the day. Laveena Olivera, President of the association, extended a warm welcome to all attendees, setting the stage for a series of engaging activities.
Irene Pais, the Secretary, presented a comprehensive report highlighting the association's achievements and milestones. Notable individuals such as Helen D'Souza, Secretary of the Kallainpur Varado Women Association, Alice D'Souza, Representative of Women Empowerment for Catholic Sabha in Kallianpur Varado, and Shallet Dais, who secured the Second Prize in an essay competition at the Udupi Diocese level, were honored during the event for their exemplary contributions.
The guests on the dais, including the revered Parish Priest and the distinguished guest of honor Sheela Jossie Picardo, shared inspiring words of wisdom, emphasizing the importance of women's empowerment and their indomitable spirit in overcoming challenges.
Sheela Jossie Picardo, serving as the Headmistress of Government High School Chekadi, was felicitated by the association for her outstanding leadership and dedication to the cause of education. In her address, she underscored the limitless potential of women when equipped with determination and perseverance.
Parish Priest Rev Fr Ronald Miranda commended the association for their relentless efforts not only towards self-improvement but also for the upliftment of society at large. His words resonated deeply with the audience, reinforcing the significance of collective action in effecting positive change.
