NJC Barkur Hosts Two-Day Athletic Extravaganza: A Triumph of Sportsmanship

Barkur, December 27, 2023 – Nestled amidst anticipation and spirited enthusiasm, NJC Barkur recently played host to a dynamic two-day Athletic Competition, spanning the 26th and 27th of December, 2023. The event, eagerly awaited by students of both the High School and Pre-University Colleges, unfolded under the meticulous guidance of the Physical Education Director, Mr. Umesh Shetty, and the dedicated collaboration of Mr. A H Gowda and their proficient team.

Weeks of diligent preparations paved the way for an exuberant inaugural ceremony, radiating with vibrant colors. Mr. Shedikodlu Vittal Shetty, Vice President of the Barkur Educational Society (BES), presided over the ceremony in the absence of Mr. B Shantarama Shetty, the President of BES. The festivities commenced with the uplifting hoisting of the flag by Mr. Shedikodlu Vittal Shetty, setting the stage for a disciplined march-past featuring the School band, NCC, Scouts, and Guides.

Amidst the traditional rituals, Mr. Ashok Kumar Shetty, the Secretary of BES, received the salute and guard of honor. Retired Principal Mr. B Seetarama Shetty extended honor and congratulations to the first set of victorious participants. Mr. Rajaram Shetty, Chairman of NJC Platinum Jubilee Celebrations, conveyed his best wishes for the success of the annual athletic meet.

The inaugural event also witnessed the presence of Treasurer Mr. Krishna Hebbar, Mr. S Ratnakara Shetty, President of NJC Old Students Association, Mr. Archibald Furtado, Administrative Coordinator of National Gr. Edu. Institutions, and various members of BES, along with teachers and parents.

In his welcome address, Principal of National Pre-University College, Prof. Kottraswamy, extended warm greetings to all guests and participants. As Mrs. Jyothy A Shetty, Senior Teacher, and others took charge of the proceedings, the short inaugural event concluded with a vote of thanks by the Headmistress of the High School section, Mrs. Hemavathy PS.

Over the course of two days, a flurry of activities and competitions unfolded, attracting visits from old students, former teachers, well-wishers, and parents. The college grounds buzzed with excitement as participants showcased their skills in various races and relays. Lecturers, trainers, coaches, teaching, and non-teaching staff actively contributed to the seamless execution of events, from running commentary to the distribution of medals and certificates.

On the second day, the grounds were set for track-related races, drawing early morning crowds to witness the thrilling events for both High School and PU students. The relay, in particular, garnered significant support and encouragement from onlookers. By 1:30 pm, the sports event reached its climax, culminating in a momentous celebration of victories, efforts, friendships, and enduring memories.

The organizers orchestrated a short but formal closing ceremony, marked by the dignified lowering of the flag by Mr. Archibald Furtado, handed over to the Head of the Institution, Principal U Kotraswamy. Former Office Head Clerk & Rotary President Mr. Seetarama, Mr. Jayananda Poojary, and other dignitaries graced the occasion. As the whirlwind of excitement, energy, and emotions subsided, the organizers left the participants with a resonant message – until they meet again, keep playing, practicing, striving, and dreaming.
