In a vibrant display of youth engagement and spiritual development, the Young Catholic Students (YCS) of Kallianpur Deanery organized their annual 'Beginners Training Program 2024-25' at the Souharda community hall of St. Peter Church, Barkur. The event, hosted by the YCS Barkur unit, was aimed at introducing new members to the YCS movement and fostering leadership skills among the youth. It was marked by enthusiastic participation and insightful sessions.
The program commenced with a warm welcome address delivered by Lucas Savio Sequeira from Mount Rosary Parish, Kallianpur, setting an inviting tone for the day's activities. Renish Tyson Pinto from Barkur skillfully guided the proceedings as the Master of Ceremonies, ensuring a smooth flow of events.
The event was graced by several esteemed guests and speakers:
Chief Guest, Fr. Ronald Miranda, Parish Priest of Barkur, YCS Kallianpur Director, Fr. Oliver Nazareth and Resident Priest of Barkur, Fr. Rolvin Fernandes.
A highlight of the program was a compelling speech on "What is YCS" by Melwyn Castellino, a DEXCO Animator and Professor at St. Mary's College. His presentation provided valuable insights into the mission and vision of the Young Catholic Students movement, inspiring the attendees to embrace their roles as future leaders in the church and society.
The event showcased the strong youth leadership within the Kallianpur Deanery:
Deanery President, Ishney Fernandes from Kemmannu, Deanery Animator:** Roshni Saldanha from Mount Rosary, and Assistant Deanery Animator Laveena Aroza from Thottam.
Adding a national perspective to the program, Anson Nazareth, the National President of YCS from Shirva, shared his experiences and vision for the organization's future.
The success of the event was largely attributed to the dedicated efforts of the local YCS animators from Barkur, Sr. Jasmita Crasta and Mr. Naveen Dias, who were instrumental in managing the full-day event, ensuring that all activities ran smoothly and that participants had a meaningful experience.
The 'Beginners Training Program 2024-25' aimed to:
1. Introduce new members to the principles and objectives of the YCS movement
2. Develop leadership skills among young Catholic students
3. Foster a sense of community and shared purpose among participants
4. Provide a platform for youth to discuss and address issues relevant to their faith and society
As the event drew to a close, Deanery President Ishney Fernandes delivered a heartfelt vote of thanks, expressing gratitude to all participants, organizers, and guests for their contributions to the program's success.
The 'Beginners Training Program 2024-25' not only served as an excellent introduction for new YCS members but also reinforced the organization's commitment to nurturing young Catholic leaders. As these students return to their respective parishes, they carry with them new friendships, enhanced knowledge, and a reinvigorated spirit to serve their communities through the YCS movement.
The success of this event bodes well for the future of the YCS in Kallianpur Deanery, promising continued growth and impact in the years to come.
