Parishioners of historical Barkur St Peter Church truly had a surprise in waiting, when they had His Excellency the Bishop of Udupi, Rt Rev Dr Gerald Isaac Lobo midst of them to herald the beginning of the Holy Week, being the main celebrant on Palm Sunday on 10th April 2022. The parish Priest Rev. Fr Philip Neri Aranha, Rev Fr Charles Saldanah, OFM Cap and the Vice President and other leaders of the Church Pastoral Council led by VP Herald DSouza welcomed the Bishop.

The triumphant entry of Jesus on the previous Sunday of Easter, into the temple city of Jerusalem about 2000 years ago, accepting and glorifying Him as the King by spreading the carpets, showering flowers, waving Olive branches on the streets and singing hosannas to the King of Kings will be refreshed and reminded on this day, by the entire Church in the world. In the beginning the parishioners participated in a colourful procession and entered the Church holding palms on their hands.

While breaking the word of God, in his message, the Bishop called on the faithful to walk on the footsteps of Jesus to have a peaceful and just society.  He also reminded the forthcoming observance of holy week - the death on the Cross and resurrection, the Pascal mystery which is the summit of Catholic faith be an occasion to pray for peace in the world at large.
