Grand Celebrations conclude the Annual Festival of Goddess Sri Kula Mahastri Amma at Beṇṇekudru, Barkur

Barkur, December 18, 2023 — The sacred grounds of Sri Kula Mahastri Amma Temple in Beṇṇekudru, Barkur, resonated with jubilation on the third day of the annual festival, with "Theppotsava" or the Float Festival, unfolded on the tranquil waters of the River Sita on Monday, December 18, 2023, commencing at 4:30 am.

The majestic idol of Sri Kula Mahastri Amma, adorned with a floral canopy and illuminated by the radiance of twinkling lights, was placed on a beautifully crafted golden palanquin within a silver boat. The ritualistic decorations included a stunning display of flowers and electric lights, creating a mesmerizing spectacle that captivated the eyes of the devotees.

The festivities commenced with devotional songs, instrumental music, and traditional chants, initiating the grand procession around the temple tank. Pilgrims and locals alike gathered in anticipation of the unique event, which unfolded with the golden palanquin carrying the divine deity circumnavigating the tank, a spectacle that enraptured all beholders.

Witnessing the ornately decorated boat carrying the sacred idol during the early hours of the morning became a visual feast for the onlookers, signifying the peak of the annual celebration. The circumambulation, known as "pradakshina," took approximately two hours, concluding with the return of the divine procession to Beṇṇekudru.

On the third day of the annual celebration, devotees participated in a special afternoon prayer session known as "Bobbarya Daivadarshana," seeking the divine blessings of the deity. This included the offering of flowers and prayers to Ajjamma, a manifestation of the divine.

Further enriching the spiritual experience, a Nagadarshana,  symbolic adoration of the serpent deity, present in the temple premises on Tuesday, adding an auspicious touch to the proceedings. The Nagapathri responsible for the ritual, was Subramanya Madyastha.

Also Kola Seve for the Shri Male Savira Parivara Daiva in the same Temple complex was also offered as part of annual rituals. 

The crucial roles of archakas (temple priests) were expertly fulfilled by Shri Bhaskar Udupa Handadi and Shri Subramanya Udupa Handadi, ensuring the seamless execution of the sacred ceremonies.

The annual celebration of Sri Kula Mahastri Amma at Barkur Beṇṇekudru concluder as a vibrant tapestry of devotion, culture, and tradition, leaving an indelible mark on the hearts of the devotees who gathered to witness and partake in the divine festivities.
