The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) won the by-election to the Barkur Taluk Panchayat constituency coming under the Udupi Taluk Panchayat, the results of which were announced on Thursday.
According to a press release here, Chandrashekhar Shetty of the BJP defeated his nearest Congress rival John Picardo by 1,677 votes.
Mr. Chandrashekar Shetty secured 2,349 votes, while Mr. John Picardo polled 672 votes. Mrs Shobha Fernandes of the Janata Dal (Secular) obtained 128 votes.
