PEDRUCHI CHAAVI – JUNE 2005, AN OBSERVATION…………..

We are in receipt of Pedruchi Chavi, June 2005 issue, generously sponsored by Bahrain bound Barkurians.

It is a worthy cause, dear Friends to support, in the interest of Barkurian’s spread over the globe, especially those inclined to know their native parish and its people regularly.

Lead by veteran Mr. Thaddeus Gonsalves and talented Mr. Johnson D’Almeida, at the helm and well supported by other Barkurians in Bahrain, back home the booklet is composed very well, by Mr. Eric Soans.

Reports of Parish Day Celebrations and that of Expressions, caught our attention and couples of Kannada articles are useful.

More poets are in the making, yes, instead of writing pages and pages, hardly people read them, or find time to go through them, whatever one have to say, make it short and sweet – Fatkiren, by Nels, Ozanam Ghar of Grace Martis, Sambramik Phirgaz dees, by Gretta Picardo and Mazo Gavn composed by Reshma Johnson - all deserve praises.

As usual, Mr. Eric Soans in his editorial best to make people think for a while…. our patron must be remembered for better reasons……….. And brief background of Bahrain and Barkurian’s over there is really very brief.

If I remember correctly, I heard and read in media about Mr. Thaddeus Gonsalves very often, a familiar name… and his involvement in social, cultural and sport circles of Bahrain, would have found a place in the book.

Mary knoll Hr. Primary School is the subject matter everybody to think…… and if not mistaken third time in succession we are reading about!

Personally, I am very much inspired and overwhelmed to see my classmate Mr. Ivan M. Rebello as Personality of the issue. At this young age, he has achieved a lot and is a selfless missionary when it comes to Youth Welfare. A gentleman by manners and mild spoken, no nonsense, always stood by righteousness throughout his career, from Schooldays.

It was wonderful to serve under him as the President of ICYM days in early 80’s. He holds the unbreakable record of being the Office bearer since 1983 – till now, may it be BWCYM, SPCYA and now SPA, almost 22 long years! I failed to understand why there was no mention of Mr. Ivan M.Rebello, being incumbent President of ICYM EX-Member’s Association?

Lastly, bitter pill to swallow, the so-called Chavi knock our doors only twice in a calendar year! A delicate subject to discuss – economic considerations we do agree, but no worthy articles, no surely there is no dearth for talents at Barkur.

Bit encouragement to budding, would be writers and toleration of their early hiccups or allowing few English pages, the way Kannada found its place could solve this problem, if it is really there! Be sure, this is not disagreeing with the collective wisdom of Parish Council, which knows ground realities well.

Before closing this note, let us thank Mr. Eric Soans, and all involved thus far to publish the booklet regularly.

It is worthy to share a comment by one of my colleague who read the magazine – “you are about two dozen people as editorial board and representatives over the world not capable enough to collect Rs.1000/= each, once in three months…. and offset the printing cost… and for postage, make permanent members around 200 by accepting Rs.1000/= and put it in Postal Dept on fixed deposit at 8%, fetching around Rs.16000/= p.a.?…………”
