Flood Relief Drive organised by Catholic Sabha Barkur Unit.

Catholic Sabha Barkur Unit along with Sowhardha Stree Sangathan Barkur Unit organised a collection drive of materials to aid and provide relief to victims of the current Karnataka floods. 

On August 15, 2019, parish priest, Rev. Fr. Philip Neri Aranha after mass encouraged Barkur parishners to come forward and donate generously towards this cause. The parishners responded overwhelmingly and provided a variety of items and cash. 

Special mention must be made of Mrs. Helen D'souza, President of Sowhardha Stree Sangathan Barkur Unit who along with the Stree Sangathan members collected flood relief materials and cash totalling around Rs. 50,000/-.

In addition, residents of St. Francis Ward, Kudru donated materials worth Rs. 15,000/- and those of St. Peter Ward,  Kachur donated materials worth around Rs. 10,000/-.

Numerous parishners came forward individually to donate various items totally worth around Rs. 25,000/-.

Staney Lewis of St. Lawrence Ward, Hosala  individually donated men's and women's clothes worth Rs 10,000/-.

In total, items worth around Rs. One Lakh and cash Rs. 10,000/- were collected from St. Peter's parish, Barkur.

The collected items include rice, dal, salt, sugar, tea and coffee powders, oil, mineral water, washing soaps, bathing soaps, detergents, phenyle, dettol, mosquito coils, matchboxes, candles, toothpastes, toothbrushes, women's hygiene materials, men's and women's clothes,  bedsheets, towels, plastic buckets and mugs. 

Earlier today, August 19, 2019, members of Barkur's Catholic Sabha and Stree Sangathan loaded all the collected flood relief items onto a Goods Tempo and transported them to the parish priest's office at Milagres Cathedral: Kallianpur.

A cheque for Rs. 10,000/- was also handed over for the flood relief efforts on behalf of St. Peter's parish, Barkur by Edgar Fernandez, President and Thelma D'Almeida, Secretary of Catholic Sabha, Barkur Unit.
