In a heartwarming display of alumni support and commitment to education, the National PU College in Barkur, Karnataka, witnessed a momentous event on Thursday, July 25, 2024. The college's Alumni Association, continuing its tradition of magnanimous contributions, organized a multifaceted program that included the distribution of free uniforms to all students, recognition of academic achievers, and honoring of dedicated educators.

A Colorful Celebration of Education

The college auditorium was filled to capacity as the event commenced at 3:30 PM, with Mrs. Jyothy, a Kannada lecturer, providing a brief overview of the triune program. Principal Prof. U Kottraswamy extended a warm welcome to the distinguished guests, including the President and office bearers of 'The Barkur Educational Society' and the 'National Alumni Association'.

Reflecting on Past Glory and Present Revival

The keynote address, delivered by Prof. Balakrishna Hegde, Secretary of the Old Students Association and a retired principal, was both nostalgic and inspiring. He reminisced about the institution's golden era in the 1970s and 80s, expressing satisfaction at the visible revival of the college's reputation. Prof. Hegde commended the current students' talent and discipline, the dedication of the teaching staff, and the robust management team. He assured continued support from the alumni, emphasizing the importance of maintaining this positive momentum.

Uniforms: A Symbol of Unity and Support

The highlight of the event was the distribution of free uniforms to all students, generously sponsored by the Old Students Association. Mr. B Shantarama Shetty, President of 'The Barkur Educational Society', had the honor of distributing the uniforms. He acknowledged the alumni as the "backbone and real strength" of National Educational Institutions, expressing heartfelt gratitude for their ongoing support.

Recognizing Excellence and Dedication

The event also celebrated academic excellence, with meritorious students receiving special scholarships distributed by Mr. Shedikodlu Vittal Shetty, Vice President of the Barkur Educational Society. In his address, Mr. Shetty congratulated the high achievers and encouraged current students to emulate their success.

In a touching tribute, teachers were honored for their dedicated service and sacrifices that led to record-breaking results in the recent academic year. Each educator was draped with a traditional shawl, presented with a memento, and given fresh roses amidst thunderous applause from the audience.

A Testament to Alumni Commitment

Mr. Ashok Kumar Shetty, Secretary of the Barkur Educational Society, highlighted the transformative impact of alumni contributions. He noted that their support has enabled the provision of numerous free facilities, including transportation, midday meals, and CET NEET coaching. Mr. Shetty challenged the current students to reciprocate this generosity through improved academic performance and by becoming quality citizens of the nation.

Looking Ahead with Optimism

The president of the Old Students Association, Mr. Karunakar Shetty Sankady, was honored for his leadership. In his address, he acknowledged the generous donors who made the uniform distribution possible and expressed optimism for the institution's future. "Better days are here again," he remarked, noting the positive atmosphere and smiling faces of the students.

The event showcased the unity among various stakeholders in the educational community. Notable attendees included Mr. Rajaram Shetty, Correspondent of SVVN and Chairman of the Platinum Jubilee Celebrations Committee; Mr. Krishna Hebbar, Treasurer of BES; Mr. Gopal Naik, Correspondent of NJC; and several other distinguished guests and parents.

As the event concluded with a vote of thanks by Mrs. Hemavathy PS, Headmistress of the National High School section, it was clear that the spirit of collaboration between alumni, educators, and current students is paving the way for a bright future at National PU College, Barkur.
