              Rtn. K. Jayaram Shetty 
                
              Mr. 
              K. Jayaram Shetty was born on 
              13th 
              February 1944, at Kavadi, Barkur, to Mrs. Chandamma Shetty and Mr. 
              Krishnayya Shetty of Kavadi.  
              He 
              obtained his primary education from the Government Higher Primary 
              School at Kavadi.  He obtained his SSLC (High School Degree) from 
              our beloved 
              National
              High School, 
              Barkur. He obtained his Teacher’s Training Certificate at 
              Mangalore.  
              Mr. 
              Jayaram Shetty served for 38 years as an educationist.  His very 
              first assignment as schoolteacher was at the 
              
              Govt.
              Primary 
              School, 
              Ajri Hara, Kundapura Taluk.  He served there for 2 years, and got 
              transferred to 
              Govt.
              Higher
              Primary 
              School, 
              at Kavadi as the Head Master where he taught and administered for 
              15 years.  He made tremendous efforts in reaching out every family 
              in the Kavadi area, urging parents to send every child to school.  
              The enrollment was substantial during his administration.  
              He 
              moved to the 
              Zilla
              Panchayath
              Higher
              Primary 
              School, 
              Hosala, Barkur, where we rendered his selfless service for 15 
              years as the well-liked Head Master.  During his tenure as the 
              Head Master, the school saw all round development. He, with the 
              help of the Old Student’s Association and parent teacher 
              association installed many scholarship programs, which helped 
              quite a few poor students to have the required text and 
              note-books, uniforms, or stationery.   
              
              From Hosala he was transferred back to Kavadi school as H.M.,   
              where he served for 5 years.  His final year of teaching, was at 
              the Govt. Primary School, Kachur, Barkur, as the Head Master, from 
              where he retired.  
              He 
              was adjudged and awarded the "Best Teacher" award in the undivided 
              Dakshina Kannada District, in the year 1999-2000.  
              Not 
              only during his hectic teaching years, even now in his precious 
              retired days, he is involved in several social activities.  
              Presently he is involved in many associations:  
              1. 
              Treasurer, Sharadotsava Committee, Barkur 
              2. 
              Executive member of Vidyabhivardini Sanga 
              3. 
              Executive member of Old Students' Assn., National Junior College, 
              Barkur 
              4. 
              President of Karawali High School Buildings Committee 
              5. 
              Founder of Kavadi Higher Primary School 
              6. 
              President of Rotary club, Barkur - when the Rotary International 
              celebrates its centenary year.  
              Mr. 
              Jayaram Shetty is married to Prafulla J. Shetty.  They have five 
              children :  
              1. 
              Dr. Jeevan Prakash Shetty, 2. Mr Chetan Prakash Shetty, B.E., 3. 
              Mr. Naveen Prakash Shetty, PG in Fisheries who is serving in South 
              Africa, 4. Mrs. Vandana, and 5. Dr. Vasanth Kumar Shetty.    
              He 
              is known as a Progressive Agriculturist.  He has tried different 
              types of rice, different grains, and cash producing vegetables 
              throughout the year and years, besides, different types of flower 
              plants, and medicinal plants as well.  
              As 
              the President of the Rotary Club, he is very happy with the 
              various programs that were being organized jointly with ICYM, 
              Barkur.  They have already succeeded in successfully completing 5 
              medical camps in the neighborhood.   They have already identified 
              future joint programs:  AIDS awareness program during the 1st 
              week of December; visit to old age homes; visiting the jail; and 
              visiting the hospitalized sick, during the month of November.   
              He 
              is planning to construct a Rotary Club Hall in Barkur, a project 
              very much dear to his heart.  We wish him success in this 
              Herculean  task.  
              His 
              message to the youth: “Try to build a society free from all sorts 
              of corruption & favoritism.  Only through youth organizations and 
              with the involvement of the youth a peaceful and healthy society 
              can be formed.”
