Barkur Parish Bids Heartfelt Farewell to Resident Priest Rev. Fr. Rolvin Fernandes

Barkur, August 18, 2024- In a touching ceremony filled with gratitude and warm wishes, the parishioners of Barkur Parish came together to bid farewell to their beloved Resident Priest, Rev. Fr. Rolvin Fernandes. The send-off program, held after the first Mass on Sunday, marked the end of Fr. Rolvin's two-year tenure at Barkur Parish as he prepares to take on his new role at Pangla Parish.

Fr. Rolvin, who pursued his Master's Degree at the prestigious Smt. Rukmini Shedthi Memorial National Government First Grade College in Barkur, had become an integral part of the parish community during his residency. Despite not officially holding the title of Assistant Parish Priest, Fr. Rolvin's dedication and selfless service left an indelible mark on the hearts of the parishioners.

The farewell ceremony commenced with Jossie Fernandes, Vice President of the Parish Pastoral Council, addressing the gathering. In his speech, Fernandes expressed deep appreciation for Fr. Rolvin's contributions to the parish. "Fr. Rolvin's commitment to our community went above and beyond his official duties. His selfless service and genuine care for our parishioners have been truly remarkable," Fernandes stated, conveying the collective gratitude of the congregation.

Parish Priest Rev. Fr. Ronald Miranda also shared his sentiments, highlighting the close bond he had formed with Fr. Rolvin. "During his stay, Fr. Rolvin has been more than just a colleague; he has been like a brother to me," Fr. Miranda said, his voice tinged with emotion. "His presence will be deeply missed in our parish."

The ceremony took on a traditional flavor as Fr. Rolvin was honored with a shawl, draped over his shoulders as a symbol of respect and appreciation. Jossie Fernandes, representing the parishioners, presented Fr. Rolvin with thoughtful gifts. The youth of the parish, represented by Ceolla Pinto and Rishon Barnes from the Indian Catholic Youth Movement (ICYM) Barkur unit, also came forward to offer their tokens of gratitude.

Visibly moved by the outpouring of love and respect, Fr. Rolvin addressed the gathering. He expressed his heartfelt thanks for the support and affection he had received during his stay at Barkur Parish. "The warmth and love I have experienced here will forever remain in my heart," Fr. Rolvin said. He assured the parishioners of his continued prayers and blessings as he embarks on his new journey.

The farewell program, expertly compered by Eric Soans, Secretary of the Parish Pastoral Council, was a testament to the strong bonds formed between Fr. Rolvin and the Barkur Parish community. As Fr. Rolvin prepares to take on his new responsibilities at Pangla Parish, he leaves behind a legacy of compassion, dedication, and spiritual guidance that will be cherished by the parishioners of Barkur for years to come.
