In a touching display of pastoral care and community engagement, the Right Reverend Dr. Gerald Isaac Lobo, Bishop of Udupi Diocese, visited Maryknoll Higher Primary School in Hosala, Barkur, on Monday, October 14, 2024. The visit, part of a three-day pastoral tour, brought excitement and inspiration to the school's young students and dedicated staff.

The atmosphere was electric as Bishop Lobo arrived at 10:00 am, greeted warmly by Headmistress Mrs. Joyce D'Sa, who presented him with a bouquet of roses. The welcoming party included several prominent figures: Rev. Fr. Ronald Miranda, the School Correspondent and Parish Priest; Mr. Joseph Fernandes, Vice President of the Parish Pastoral Council; Mr. Rama Poojary, PTA President; and members of the School Management Committee.

The school's auditorium buzzed with anticipation as students gathered for a special assembly. The children's enthusiasm was palpable as they performed songs and cheers, creating a vibrant and joyous atmosphere. Bishop Lobo, touched by the warm reception, took time to interact personally with the students, sharing stories and imparting valuable life lessons.

In his address, the Bishop emphasized the importance of compassion, kindness, and respect, particularly towards teachers. His words resonated deeply with the young audience, many of whom attend this Kannada-medium school. The Bishop's message of hope and encouragement was particularly poignant, inspiring the children to embrace their education and uphold strong values.

Following the assembly, the Bishop met with the teaching staff, each of whom was introduced by the Headmistress and the Correspondent. During this meeting, the school's current status was discussed, including the significant contributions of the St. Peter's Association, parents, donors, and the Old Students Association. The role of alumni in supporting their alma mater was particularly highlighted, underscoring the strong community bonds fostered by the school.

The impact of Bishop Lobo's visit extended beyond the immediate school community. His presence and words of wisdom served as a reminder of the vital role that education, especially in regional languages like Kannada, plays in shaping young minds and future leaders.

Mrs. Sangeetha, a teacher at the school, expressed heartfelt gratitude on behalf of the entire staff.
