Monti fest celebrations, with flowers, at Kudru ward

Antony Prakash DSouza

Children offering flowers to Mother Mary is integral part of Monti fest celebrations. As festivities at church were curtailed due to ongoing pandemic, parishioners of Kudru ward found their own way of celebrations.

The novena was organized at Mother Mary’s grotto at the house of Mr. Roni / Mrs. Sunitha Barnes at 9a.m. Approximately 25 children of the ward with help of their enthusiastic parents collected and brought flowers. Approximately 25 elders too joined the event celebrations. Mrs. Margaret, the Gurkarn of the ward conducted the Novena with the help of ward members.

Keeping the tradition, ‘Kobu’ (Sugar canes) were distributed to all the children who had brought flowers. Also cake and other sweets were distributed to the gathering. In effect, it was a miniature version of church.

Mrs. Margaret, the Gurkarn of the ward, thanked the sponsors of the event – Peter/Raina D’Souza, Nelson / Leera Furtado and Roni/Sunitha Barnes. The event was organized by taking required precautionary measures such as wearing masks and keeping social distancing.
