Bishop of Udupi was in Barkur as a part of his Pastoral visit on 30th October and 31st October, 2021.
40 children from the Parish received the Sacrament of Confirmation during this visit. Rev.Bishop met the ICYM and YCS groups and had discussions with the Office bearers and members of the Parish Council.
A meeting with the leading and eminent citizens too was organised where in a few great achievers in different walks of life were recognised, such as national Javelin throw athlete Karishma Sanil, a popular and well-known teacher Sudhakar Rao, an environmentalist and former Principal of National Junior College B Seetharama Shetty - for their wonderful achievement and contribution to the Barkurian society.
Bishop Rt. Rev. Dr Jerald Isaac Lobo called back the historical significance of this place Barkur, known for religious harmony, co-operation and peaceful co-existence. A home for great temples, mosques and Jain basadi’s - is a perfect and live example of universal brotherhood and mutual respect for whole of India, Bishop recalled.
Various community leaders and church representatives attended the Get Together and Parish priest Rev Fr Philip Neri Aranha, President of the Village Panchayat B. Shantarama Shetty, expressed their happiness and views on this occasion especially appreciated the efforts of Pastoral Commission for Inter-religious brethren, for their concern for each other and initiative for having better understanding…..
