St. Peter's Church Barkur Celebrates Christmas with Reverence and Grandeur

Barkur, December 25, 2023 : In a display of profound reverence and grandeur, St. Peter's Church in Barkur marked Christmas celebrations with a series of enchanting events. The festive fervor commenced at 7:30 pm, as the air resonated with the harmonious blend of Christmas carols presented by the Barkur Choir, skillfully led by Eric Spans. Each carol was accompanied by meaningful insights, adding depth to the musical celebration.

The solemnity of the occasion was presided over by Fr. Rolwin Fernandes, Resident Priest, along with Fr. Ronald Miranda, Parish Priest and Fr. Vishal Lobo, and Fr.Anil D'Almeida S.J., priests from Barkur serving in various locations. The spiritual atmosphere drew a large congregation of parishioners, who actively participated in the holy mass.

In a poignant moment following the Holy mass at St. Peter's Church, Barkur, the congregation came together to acknowledge and felicitate Mr. Jerome Castelino, who recently retired after serving diligently in the Church Office for a significant period.Fr. Miranda, Parish Priest,  draped a shawl around Mr. Castelino, symbolizing the warmth and appreciation for his tireless contributions. Fr. Miranda took a moment to express sincere gratitude for Mr. Castelino's dedicated service, highlighting the invaluable role he played in the church community.

The felicitation took place in the presence of Mr. Joseph Fernandes, Vice President of the Parish Council, and Eric Soans, Secretary.

This heartfelt recognition added a touching layer to the Christmas celebrations, emphasizing the importance of community and the enduring spirit of gratitude that defines the season. As Mr. Cornelio steps into a well-deserved retirement, his legacy of service remains woven into the fabric of St. Peter's Church Barkur.

Following the mass, the joyous spirit continued with a cake-cutting ceremony, skillfully organized by the ICYM Barkur. The event brought together the community in a festive gathering, fostering a sense of shared joy and unity.

Noteworthy was the generosity of Canara Bank and Union Banks of Barkur, who, in keeping with their annual tradition, provided cakes for all attendees. This act of community support further exemplified the spirit of giving and togetherness that defines the Christmas season.

A highlight of this year's celebration was the exceptionally creative Christmas Crib, meticulously crafted by the talented youngsters of ICYM under the guidance of Fr. Rolwin Fernandes. The nativity scene stood as a testament to the artistic prowess of the youth, adding a visual spectacle to the festivities.

St. Peter's Church Barkur once again became the focal point of Christmas joy, blending tradition, community, and creativity in a celebration that will linger in the hearts of parishioners for years to come.
