Barkur Athlete Dhanvita Shines in District-Level Throwball Tournament

SHIRVA, September 19, 2024 - In a display of exceptional athletic prowess, Dhanvita Poojary, a multi-talented student from Brahmawar SMS Pre-University College, has led her team to victory in the Udupi District-level Pre-University Girls' Throwball Tournament. The event, jointly organized by the Department of School Education and Hindu Pre-University College, took place on Thursday at the Hindu Pre-University College in Shirva.

Dhanvita, daughter of prominent Barkur businessman Mr. Ganesh Poojary and Mrs. Shilpa Poojary, Nagaramata, members of the Barkur Rotary Club, showcased her remarkable skills throughout the tournament. Her outstanding performance not only contributed to her team's first-place finish but also earned her the prestigious title of Best Receiver in the competition.

This victory has secured Dhanvita and her team a coveted spot in the upcoming state-level tournament, where they will represent Udupi district against the best teams from across Karnataka.

Dhanvita's success in this tournament adds to her already impressive list of achievements. A true polymath, she has previously participated in and won accolades in various sports competitions. However, her talents extend far beyond the realm of athletics. Dhanvita is also an accomplished performer in the classical Indian dance form of Bharatanatyam and the traditional theater art of Yakshagana. Her exceptional acting skills in these art forms have garnered her numerous awards and recognition.

The young athlete's multifaceted abilities serve as an inspiration to her peers and underscore the importance of nurturing diverse talents. Her father, Mr. Ganesh Poojary, a respected entrepreneur and active member of the  Rotary Club, expressed immense pride in his daughter's achievements. "We've always encouraged Dhanvita to pursue her passions, whether in sports or the performing arts. Her dedication and hard work continue to amaze us," he stated.

Dhanvita's coach at SMS Pre-University College commended her commitment and natural aptitude for throwball. "Dhanvita's agility and quick reflexes make her an invaluable asset to our team. Her award as Best Receiver is well-deserved and a testament to her countless hours of practice," the coach remarked.

Looking ahead, Dhanvita and her team are now focused on preparing for the state-level tournament. The young athlete remains humble despite her success, stating, "I'm grateful for this opportunity and the support of my family, coaches, and teammates. We'll give our best at the state level."
