Barkur, May 23, 2024: The quaint village of Moodahadu in Barkur is abuzz with excitement as the ward members and parishioners prepare to inaugurate a memorial dedicated to their illustrious son, 'Servant of God Fr. Alfred Roche,' OFM Cap., who is on the path to sainthood. The memorial, an epitome of reverence and devotion, will serve as a beacon of inspiration for generations to come.

Born on April 3, 1924, as the fifth and youngest child of the devout Isaac Roche and Carmine Monthiro, Fr. Alfred Roche's journey began in Moodahadu Kudru. His birthplace, once a humble abode, is now set to become a sacred site, where visitors can pay homage, pray, and seek spiritual solace.

On Saturday, May 25, 2024, the community of Barkur will come together in a grand celebration to commemorate the life and legacy of this beloved priest. The momentous occasion will commence with a Holy Mass at 10:30 AM in the St. Peter's Church, Barkur, where Fr. Alfred was baptized by the then parish priest, Msgr. Denis Jerome D'Souza. The High Mass will be celebrated by Rev. Fr. Ronald Miranda, the Vicar of Barkur Church, accompanied by concelebrants and Capuchin priests.

Following the solemn Mass, the community is cordially invited to gather at Kudru Village at 12:00 noon to witness the inauguration ceremony and blessing of the memorial.
