In a vibrant display of patriotism and devotion, St. Peter Church in Barkur commemorated India's Independence Day on August 15, 2023. The day's events commenced with a solemn Mass, officiated by Rev. Fr. Ronald Miranda, the Parish Priest, alongside  Rev. Fr. Rolvin Fernandes, the Resident Priest. The convergence of India's Independence Day with the Feast of the Assumption added a profound layer of significance to the proceedings, underscoring the intertwining of faith and patriotism in the community's fabric.

Following the Mass, attendees gathered outside for the highlight of the celebration – the unfurling of the tricolor flag. Rev. Fr. Rolvin Fernandes had the honor of hoisting the national flag, a moment that stirred emotions and instilled a sense of unity among all present.
